Project: John Jay Homestead State Historic Site - Carriage Barn Education and Visitor Center

Near the entrance of John Jay’s sprawling, 62-acre estate is an old carriage barn that has been restored and remade into a visitor center. As part of an introduction to Jay’s life, Redmon created orientation stations where visitors can explore interactive media of his experiences as a diplomat and the first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Other multimedia features include a lightbox sequence with narration, a touchscreen magazine set in Jay’s time period, a movie theater, and the sounds of horses rustling in stalls nearby. Because the barn is partially exposed, the visitor center design includes an audio/video system that can withstand the elements during all but the winter season.
