In 1996, PBS television premiered a four-part documentary series about Mexican Americans, a program that explores Mexican culture north of the border. To bring this program to a wider audience, the National Latino Communications Center--in partnership with Toby Levine Communications--implemented an educational outreach campaign.
The program is divided into topics that cover all aspects of the Mexican American experience--its roots, the land, labor, education, politics, and culture. Each topic contains a wealth of imagery and text-based learning, and students of the subject can listen to and see eyewitness accounts of those who participated in the Movement. Peripheral features include an educator's guide, a notepad, an encyclopedia of who's who, a time line of events, maps of the past and the present, and a wealth of resources about this subject. In addition, students can switch between English and Spanish language versions from virtually any screen. There is also an opportunity to practice Spanish pronunciation of selected terms and names.
