On April 2, 2002, Arlington County introduced two Mobile Commuter Stores designed to bring information to commuters about the area's myriad of transportation systems, and to provide a point-of-sale for tickets, tokens, and farecards. Redmon's role on the project was to design, purchase, install, and configure all of the computer and audio/visual equipment.
Each bus's network consists of a server, three customer Internet stations, two point-of-sale (POS) stations, a firewall, a satellite dish and the satellite's pc terminal. All computers are networked to each other, and all have Internet access. The server acts as a gateway device to the other computers. A Cisco switch and patch panel, with CAT5 cables, provides data transfer and video to all stations. The audio/visual (AV) system provides home theater sound and video throughout the bus. The customer Internet stations are mounted on sliding wall-mounts, which can be moved up and down to provide access for customers regardless of their height.
