EdVenture Childrens Museum

Overview

The EdVenture Children's Museum in Columbia , South Carolina enables school children to explore the adult "World of Work". Redmon created several interactive exhibits for the museum including:

Emergency Decision Center lets kids get to make important decisions about managing an imaginary emergency situation.
Newsroom lets kids take the role of a high-profile newspaper copy editor and see what it's like to assemble front page contents.
Personal Financial Decision Center teaches school aged children about financial concepts.
Safety IQ uses a multi-player game show format to teache school-aged children about fire and personal safety.
Cast Your Vote teaches school-aged children about voting and the impact every vote has on an election.

Approach

Children arrive at EdVenture and wave their "Eddie Buck" card (containing a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag) to activate the various interactive exhibits. Redmon's custom RFID data system writes information directly to the visitors RFID-enabled Eddie Buck, saving costs by avoiding the necessity for networking and servers to store visitor-specific information. The RFID data system is integrated quickly and easily into all exhibit systems. In addition to keeping track of the various jobs a child has performed in the World of Work, the RFID data is read and stored at the RFID pick-up station so that Museum staff can use the gathered information to study exhibit usage. Finally, Redmon's Coordinator and Manager custom exhibit management components provide stability and manage user timeout.
